Hello everyone, I pray you all had a peaceful Sabbath. We sure did! Frequently, I am asked what do I do with my little ones on the Sabbath? At first, I wasn’t able to answer this question. One of those reasons is because I wasn’t sure what they could or could not do either. My husband and I looked at Scripture, and we realized the Sabbath is not supposed to be a burden, it is supposed to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. It’s a day to spend with our Heavenly Father and each other. Without Shabbat, we would just keep going and going and going, without stopping to break and regather ourselves. We also asked ourselves, what are the children resting from? They don’t have jobs. With that being said, the Shabbat is date day with our Elohim!
How do we keep the Sabbath from being a burden to our children? I have one thing I would like to share with you all that is fun for everyone and still involves using the Scriptures.
My husband and I found an awesome board game called “Bible Challenge.” It’s for 2 for 4 players ages 10 and up. It comes with a dice, 4 game board pieces and two boxes of trivia card decks. This game has become one of our favorite things to do on Shabbat. The game is easy and straightforward. Some of the questions are difficult, while others are relatively easy. The rules are simple, and you can change them according to the players. For example, our children range in age from 4 to 12 years old. We break into teams, usually three on three. We let the younger ones roll the dice and move the game board pieces across the board, while the older ones answer the trivia questions. However, my seven-year-old is fully capable of answering plenty of questions because he learned it during our Social Studies unit which will be available for you all soon. There are a total of 2,100 questions which are divided into seven categories, and you can use any Bible to play (if needed). We use KJV 1611, but I am sure whatever Bible you have on hand is fine.
This game has also become a fun way to study. If there are cards we do not know or are unsure of the answer, the answers with the scripture are placed on the cards for us to reference.
GAMEPLAY: Roll the dice for the higher number to see which team will go first (if you are playing this way). Once who will go first is established, roll again to make your move across the board. The opposing team pulls a card and asks a question according to the color the player landed on (the cards with the questions are color coded, check the image below). If the player answers the questions correctly a ring ( same color as the space they landed on) is placed on the game board piece and then the player gets another turn. If the player answers the questions incorrectly, the dice goes to the next player. The first team who gets all the rings on their game board piece wins the game.
